Finch Family
|
|

|
| The finch
family includes buntings, cardinals, crossbills, dickcissel,
finches, goldfinches, rosy finches, grosbeaks, juncos, pyrrhuloxia,
redpolls, siskin, sparrows, and towhees. Generally all
fringillids have cone-shaped strong bills adapted to
seed-cracking. They are called seed-eaters, but also eat
insects and wild fruit. Singers are prevalent within this
group, some singing while in flight, others while perching.
Nests are open and cuplike built in trees, bushes, or on the ground.
The females usually build the nest and incubate the eggs.
Often the male feeds the female while she is incubating the eggs.

| Song Sparrow |

|
The Song Sparrow
is found throughout North America except the most northern
parts. This sparrow scratches for insects and seeds and
other small animals. They often scratch away the snow to
reveal fallen seeds beneath feeders. The bird's wonderful
song may be heard at any time of year. Don't miss the
video! |
